Title: Cables, Power and Words
Place: Research Residency, <Aquatic Soundscapes> Mediamatic, Amsterdam
Date: 1/3/2025 - 1/4/2025
Format: Artistic Research Presentation

Cables, Power, and Words emerged from field research conducted during a residency at Mediamatic in Oosterdok, Amsterdam, in March 2025. The work investigates underwater infrasound, harbour infrastructures, and the situated conditions through which sub-auditory sound becomes perceptible and articulable. Using a general hydrophone, an infrasound hydrophone, field notes, photographs, spectral analysis, and embodied listening, the project traces how vibration moves across water, cables, trains, machinery, and the listener’s body.

Presented in the Sluisdeurenloods at Mediamatic, the installation combined a conceptual map, fieldwork devices, spectral materials, text, and a ten-minute audiovisual work. Onomatopoeia and endophasia were used to articulate listening through embodied language, foregrounding mediation, positionality, and the interpretative labour involved in making infrasonic experience public.
